Tumpeng was traditional menu from Indonesia, with the rice in a cone-shape and yellow in colour. The shape looks like a mountain and the yellow colour was made from herb for colouring the rice. It is highly prestigious for us to win the 1st runner-up award of this cooking competition. To be awarded such honors, we exhaustedly devoted our energy and times to make delectable dishes for every participant. We are truly grateful to everyone for all voting scores. This is an unforgettable event for us. This was our first time for this cooking contest. We have pondered so many Thai food dishes to present and we decide to choose spaghetti with Tom Yam Kung(泰式酸辣奶油義大利麵) for this competition because Tom Yam Kung as well as pasta are both globally famous in many countries. An identity taste of the first dish is spicy and sour while the latter dish can be served with a variety of sauces. Therefore, we realize that if we present this couple of popular dishes by mixing them together, our participants would enjoy our food because we adjust its taste to suit everyone, less spicy and adding creamy taste. Before the important competition, we learned how to cook via watching Thai food cooking channel from YouTube and practiced cooking more than 3 times to discuss the best taste for every participant. More importantly, we used only real ingredients for seasoning. In other words, there was no gourmet powder uses in this proposed dish, so everyone could be confident that every tasted dish was a real taste of Tom Yam Kung. During the whole period of the contest day, the time management was crucial since we had to complete our preparation at 5.20 pm. Although the competition began at 1.00 pm, we had own classes and could not start at the designated time, so we all began to prepare dishes at 3.00 pm. Despite the short period for preparation, we all had a good cooperation and a great teamwork. Any tough situation can be smoothly curbed. We brought a recent 3-time practices to perform the competition and we were also delighted to see everyone likes our presented dishes. We were proud that our Thai food were conveyed to other countries in a fusion style between Thai and Italian. We would like to say that we really did not expect any rewards for this cooking contest; our purpose of this participation was just only for fun and show our Thai food in fusion cuisine. We all did not have any experiences in culinary competition, and no one had ever attended culinary colleges. Therefore, this 2nd prize was above our expectation. Of course, we were very happy, and it inspired us to learn how to cook numerous new cuisines in the future. We would like to say thank you again to everyone for coming to taste and enjoy our proposed cuisine and special thanks to Thai Student Association for invite us to apply for this competition. Definitely, we really appreciate all personnel in charge of this contest for all supports. Finally, we are highly grateful to everyone for voting us. We cannot succeed this reward without your supports. |

Rojak (Malay spelling) or Rujak (Indonesian spelling) is a traditional fruit and vegetable salad dish from Southeast Asia, commonly found in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Other than referring to this fruit salad dish, the term rojak also means "mixture" or "eclectic mix" in colloquial Malay. In Indonesia, rujak is a traditional fare, sold in traditional marketplaces, warungs or travelling gerobak pushcart by locals; especially Javanese, Sundanese and Balinese people. In Malaysia, rojak is associated with Mamak stall, which is a Muslim Malaysian Indian foodstall, where Mamak rojak is one of its popular fares. In Singapore, rojak is typically sold by Chinese hawkers. Today, they are sold in most hawker centre in the city. Rujak is available everywhere across Indonesia, and there are rich variations within the country. However, the most popular rujak variant is rujak buah (fruit rujak), which is mixed sliced fruit and vegetables served with sauce is made from tangerine, terasi, salt, chili and palm sugar. Thus, in this competition the fruits that we used are guava, pineapple and rose apple. Actually, this sauce could be use not only for a fruits but also to eat a crackers or seafood and sometimes we use it for fish seasoning. In Indonesia, among the Javanese, rujak is an essential part of the traditional prenatal ceremony called tujuh bulanan (literally: seventh month). The ritual was meant to wish the mother-to-be a safe, smooth and successful labour. Special fruit rujak is made for this occasion, and later served to the mother-to-be and her guests, primarily her female friends. It is widely known that the sweet, spicy and sour tastes of rojak are adored by pregnant women. The recipe of rujak for this ceremony is similar to typical Indonesian fruit rujak, with the exceptions that the fruits are roughly shredded instead of thinly sliced, and that jeruk bali (pomelo/pink grapefruit) is an essential ingredient. It is believed that if the rujak overall tastes sweet, the unborn would be a girl, and if it is spicy, the unborn baby is a boy. Mangarabar, or rujak making, is a special event for the inhabitants of the Batak Mandailing region in Tapanuli, North Sumatra, Indonesia, after the harvest. Normally the whole village will be involved in making and consuming the rujak. In Malaysia and Singapore, the term "rojak" is also used as a colloquial expression for an eclectic mix, in particular as a word describing the multi-ethnic character of Malaysian and Singaporean society. we didn't expect that we would win this race. because there are a lot of competitors who have special dishes. but a lot of visitors like the sauce we make. Some of them ask for the recipe. it makes us very happy that we can win this race. In addition, in this race we can also taste dishes from other countries such as Thailand and Vietnam. They have special characteristics in their cuisine, such as competitors from Thailand they present Tom Yum which is very famous in the world and packed in spaghetti noodles. |
